Ian Weston, Chairman
Ian joined Symsource in April 2005 after 7 years at Symbian where he was Vice President
of Partnering, responsible for making Symbian OS the target platform of choice for
hundreds of technology innovators in the mobile industry.
As part of the team that initially formed Symbian, he put in place engineering procedures
that today make Symbian a world class integrator of rapidly evolving technology.
He was also one of the very first to fully capitalise on the growing trend for the
need to collaborate and partner, which has become especially important in building
industry leading platforms.
Previous to his work at Symbian, he spent twelve years in the European space industry,
working mainly at Eumetsat, the European Space Agency and Inmarsat. His main interest
was in simulation and communications systems and he architected and managed the
implementation of systems for testing and qualifying flight control systems and
spacecraft operations staff.
Omid Rezvani, CEO
Omid joined Symsource from Symbian in 2005 where he was head of the engineering
function in the Partner Marketing team. In this role he ensured that Symbian’s community
of over 300 technology partners were able to make the best technical advantage of
Symbian OS, running a highly successful and well regarded team of software engineers
and business development professionals.
Prior to his four years at Symbian, he spent eight years in senior project management
roles in the telecommunications industry, both in the UK and abroad. His main areas
of activity were in the delivery and deployment of broadband access technology to
SMEs and CAPs throughout EMEA.
Omid has a BSc from Queen Mary University of London and an MBA from Imperial College.
Kevin Dixon, Vice President of Engineering
Kevin brings over 10 years experience of delivering demanding technical solutions
in the mobile handset arena to Symsource, taking up the position of Vice President
of Engineering for Symsource in early 2005, and bringing a proven track record of
disciplined management of demanding projects, lean and agile quality system implementation
and delivering compelling engineering solutions.
Within the Software Engineering department at Symbian, he was responsible for designing
the extensible Symbian OS messaging architecture before taking up the role of Technical
Leader for the Nokia 9210 Messaging and Communications applications. Following the
success of the communicator handsets, Kevin was appointed Head of Partner Projects
at Symbian, responsible for delivering bespoke software and consultancy to a wide
range of Symbian's technology partners, including semiconductor manufacturers and
network operators. Kevin also founded and managed Symbian's partner technical support
helpdesk during this time.
In 2003 Kevin joined Mirada Solutions Limited as Product Manager before being appointed
Vice President of Product Development in 2004. Following the success of Mirada products
in the marketplace, the company was acquired by Siemens in 2005. He has an MA from
Oxford University and a MSc from Aberdeen University.
Tim founded Symsource in 2004 after 3 years sourcing cutting edge technology for
Symbian for inclusion in Symbian OS. With the growing prevalence of open mobile
phones, and having always been fascinated by the potential of mobile computing,
Tim saw the perfect opportunity to launch a new business, building upon the foundation
laid in the smartphone platforms to provide truly innovative, easy and fun to use
applications.
Combining confident commercial experience with a broad technical knowledge base,
Tim has the rare skill of making technology relevant to everyone, in terms that
emphasise the benefits - the why, rather than the how. He is also a proponent of
applying Deming's lean thinking ideology to software systems engineering.
Tim holds a MEng in Computer Systems Engineering from Lancaster University, is a
scholarship graduate of the intensive Advanced Course in Design, Manufacture and
Management at Cambridge University and also holds an Engineering Leadership Award
from the Royal Academy of Engineering.
